WhatsApp Introduces A New Way to Connect and Share Emotions: Short Video Messages

August 08, 2023 13:32 WhatsApp Introduces A New Way to Connect and Share Emotions: Short Video Messages

Popular Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is all set to up its game by adding an exciting new feature- short video messages! Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced the news via Facebook, stating, "We're adding the ability to instantly record and share a video message in your WhatsApp chats. It's as easy as sending a quick voice message." The feature will be available for both Android and iOs users.

This new feature, similar in nature to voice notes, will allow users to send instant video messages. The users will now be able to record and share short personal videos in chats. The new video feature is also expected to work on both one-on-one and group chats. With a duration of 60 seconds, their usage will be just as easy as sending a voice message.

Steps To Easily Send Video Messages on WhatsApp

  1. Click on the existing microphone button to change to the video button.
  2. Now, record a video message by long pressing the same button.
  3. To record a hands-free video, simply swipe up to the lock screen.

If you receive a video message on a chat, it'll play on mute by default. To unmute, you can tap on the video itself. While the application already provides the option to record and share videos through an in-app camera, the new quick feature will bring a brand-new approach that many users will find engaging!

The new video feature followed suit from its ancestor- voice notes, which was launched back in August 2013. It has since become a massive hit and sometimes an absolute necessity for the app's dedicated users. A similar response is expected from the latest feature addition as well!

But, video messages may not get playback speed, unlike voice notes, which may frustrate some users. With voice notes, users can adjust and change the speed of the audio, making it fun and convenient. Users may find the feature inconvenient or inflexible given its no video playback speed option.

In their official blog post, WhatsApp shared it will be a fun way to communicate and share moments with all the emotions. The application also cleared the air around Video messages being protected with end-to-end encryption to keep your messages secure.

Meta also mentioned that the video message feature has already started to roll out today with an over-the-air (OTA) update. It will, most likely, be available to everyone in the upcoming weeks. So if you're not seeing it yet, we suggest being patient.

Over the past few months, WhatsApp has added new features and updated existing ones! They seem to have really listened to their users and upgraded accordingly.

In a recent addition, the company introduced a feature that automatically silences calls from unknown/spam numbers. Also, almost everybody appreciated the update, where users could edit their messages within 15 minutes of sending them.

WhatsApp is also said to be working on introducing usernames similar to the other messaging platform Telegram.
